George III mahogany chest with four graduated cock beaded drawers on ogee bracket feet. The drawers are
fitted with cast brass bat wing back plates and bail handles centering on bat wing escutcheon plates and their
original half morticed steel locks. The solid single board top is dovetailed to the case and has radius cut front
corners with an ovolo molding cut edge. The surfaces have been cleaned and polished and the case has been
stabilized and drawers re-footed as necessary. The bail brasses are replacements in the original borings. The
compact dimensions, pleasing graduation of the drawers, and exceptional quality of the woods and
construction details makes this a fine example of English cabinetry of the mid 18th century. English Chestnut
secondary wood.
