Ended 1900 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate

1900 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate Church Bells Chiming in Christmas by Dahl Jensen, 7", no certificate, in a B&G box that is not original to the plate, glaze dimple on back of plate and a small rough section on rim likely due to a plate stand.

This church bell is located int he church tower of the Syv (Seven) Church in the neighborhood of Roskilde, 18 miles west of Copenhagen. The bell was cast in 1515 by one fo the finest bell founders who ever worked in Denmark, Johannes Fastenove of the Netherlands.

The town of Roskilde was founded by King Roar about A.D. 500 and was the capital of Denmark until 1416. It was one of the richest towns in Denmark from the 12-14th C. It was the seat of the bishops who owned not only the great Roskilde Cathedral but also much of Copenhagen. The Reformation changed all this and Roskilde lost its former importance.

The Roskilde Cathedral was consecrated in 1084. Today it is Denmark's Westminister Abbey as 36 kings and queens and more than 100 person of royal blood have been buried there. Harald Bluetooth was the first king laid to rest there, and Christian X who died in 1947 was the last.
