Ended 1912 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate

1912 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate Going to Church on Christmas Eve by Einar Hansen, 7", no certificate, B&G box that is not original to plate, indents/scratches on back of plate.

The parishioners in this scene are entering Ejby Church for the Christmas Eve service. The town of Ejby is located southwest of Copenhagen and the little northwest of Koge. The church, originally known as Munke-Ejby, was taken over by the Crown after the Reformation. In 1604 it was given to Henrik Gjoe and among the subsequent owners were Corfitz Ulfeldt and Lenora Christina. It was taken from this couple, along with all their other possessions when Ulfeldt was convicted of high treason. Lenora Christina, daughter of Christian IV, spent 22 years of her life in prison because of her marriage to Ulfeldt at the age of 15. Copenhagen erected a Pillar of Shame (Skamstotte) to Ulfeldt, the most notorious and most hated traitor in Danish history, and the pillar may still be seen in the National Museum.
