1917 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate Arrival of the Christmas Boat by Achton Friis, 7", no certificate, B&G box not original to plate, indent lines and glaze circle on back.

This plate refers to the arrival of a boat carrying Americans of Danish descent home to Denmark for the Christmas celebration. The boat is gaily dressed with flags and there is a festive holiday spirit aboard. The harbor is also decorated for the season and bands are playing as the big passenger liner is guided into its berth by tugboats. Some in the crowd must wipe away tears of joy as they wait to welcome friends and family. The newspapers carry names and biographies of some of the Christmas boat passengers. The jubilation is general as most passers-by will join in welcoming the arriving guests. As a rule, all passenger boats coming from America after mid-December are considered Christmas boats.
