1923 Bing & Grondahl Christmas plate The Royal Hunting Castle, the Ermitage by Achton Friis, 7", no box or certificate, typical glazing circles on back of plate, a blue T on back, and one small throwing imperfection on back rim of plate.
Although Christian V enclosed the Klampenborg Deer Park for hunting purposes, it was Christian VI who built the small palace in the park called the Eremitage. Designed by Laurids de Thura and built in 1736, the castle is Christian VI's finest existing edifice. It is situated in the center of the Deer Park in a particularly beautiful area known as Eremitagen Sletten. Being about 130 feet above sea level, the castle commands magnificent views of the passing ships in the Sound. Herds of 100 or more deer can often be seen in the vicinity.
