An Art Collector’s Collection

I’m usually all business when I go to a client’s home to talk about and prepare a sale. This time was different. Unique. I was delighted to spend hours with Marjorie, my new client. As we talked and talked, she “painted” such a beautiful vision for me while I was photographing, measuring, and inspecting each piece of art she wanted to sell. As a matter of fact, as I ponder it now while I type, the whole experience felt like I was playing out a part in her novel or movie. As we moved from one painting to the next, Marjorie took her time to remember and explain the history and facts of each work of art. She masterfully weaved bits of her own life in each story that by the time we finished I had felt like I have known Marjorie for a long time. I even felt like I was there when she and her late husband bought each painting. I was kept amused and entertained by her stories thanks to the larger-than-life-personality of the late great Henri Tiercet, her personal French art dealer/curiator and friend. Each painting listed in this auction was sold to my client by Henri Tiercet out of his own gallery: “Henri Tiercet Galleries, Inc.” They developed a bond and friendship that lasted his lifetime. Henri knew some of the artists personally and some of my client’s paintings literally came directly from the artist themselves via Henri. Below is a short bio of Henri.

Henri E. Tiercet was born in Belgium but lived in France most of his life. He specialized in selling imported art. Many from England and France. His wife, Jennifer Tiercet , was also Henri's business partner and studied art restoration. Their Gallery, "Henri Tiercet Galleries, Inc." was established in early 1960's. I believe his gallery had a couple different locations including Sayerville, NJ and Menlo Park, NJ. Upon research I've discovered many SOLD antique paintings pass through Henri's gallery. You can find these references on Invaluable and WorthPoint to name a couple.

** FYI:

- Henri Tiercet and his wife Jenny Tiercet have both passed away.**
- Each piece of art is an original with only one Seriagraph and one Lithograph
- Each piece of art was sold by the same person/gallery: “Henri Tiercet Galleries, Inc.”
- Each piece of art was also custom framed with the back sealed by Henri Tiercet's Gallery.
- A matte, non-reflective glass was used on the majority (not all) of the frames (this was lifesaver when I was photographing the artwork!) **
