Ended LOT 119: Pair of Elegant, Cracked Ice McGuire Chairs with Cushions (Chinese Chippendale style)

This dramatic set of two dark brown lacquered rattan and caned dining chairs by McGuire were designed by Elinor McGuire in 1968 and feature the iconic cracked ice or shattered glass round back crafted from rattan pieces lashed together with rawhide leather laces. The generous seat has a fitted loose seat cushion with newer fabric and wide arms on each side. The legs have decorative Asian style spandrels in the front and are conjoined by stretchers. The chairs are marked with the brass McGuire tags beneath the seats. Still available NEW at $1,200 each at Baker Furniture.

The leather laces are faded on both chairs. The cane, rattan and cushions are in excellent condition. No stains, chips or cracks are visible.
