TITLE: Emblèm
DATE: 1952
MEDIUM: Color Lithograph on paper
DIMENSIONS: 14 ⅞ x 22 ⅜ inches
EDITION: 151/200
DESCRIPTION: As its title indicates, this work uses the idea of an emblem. However, instead of a classic European-style emblem, we find in this work by Lam a representation closer to primitivism, Negritude, Afro-Cuban history, and ethnicity and the religious practice of Santería. The figures are on a dark brown background. The figures are black and sienna. Some white details appear as a result of spaces that were not filled with color.
